she terrorised me throughout my childhood
Joan Fordham
I had a sister who lived in Armley, she worked at St. James's hospital and LGI and she terrorised me throughout my childhood. She was 18 years older than me and I used to dread seeing her. And in the end it got so bad I used to develop these horrible pustules. We were living in the Isle of Man and she’d come over for holiday and these pustules would appear at intervals. They tested the water, they tested everything. Finally my doctor, the wonderful Dr. Mann said, “it may be somebody you meet, is there somebody that you seen on these occasions?” And I said “yes, my sister.” And he says, “Oh, well you're allergic to her. I'm afraid you must never ever be in the same room with her ever again. How I stopped flinging my arms around this man and kissing him I do not know, but from that day on I never ever saw my sister again.
