John Hellawell
We were staying for holiday in London during the Blitz and after, because my father was stationed down there. So for summer holidays for two weeks, with my sister and parents, I was taken around aspects of London.
And even though I was only four, I remember vast different events of that, but the main one is walking down Downing Street, which was open then but with all sandbags on the windows. And as we were walking past, the door opened and Churchill came out!
And there he was getting into a car and he had a word with us. And I remember it without realising the significance, except being explained that it was something special. And why that sticks in my mind, it just does, forever.
