#1007 Brian The Lollipop Man

Photo of Brian

Brian

A lollipop man, it’s a wonderful thing

In a big yellow coat. To the children you bring

A big smiling welcome and a lollipop pole

To cross the kids safely, that is your role.

At first there are nerves for the kids and you too

For you don’t know them and they don’t know you.

But a kind smiling face is what will break the ice

And as long as you’re genuine, they’ll soon see you’re nice.

The parents are happy to see you’re in place

To keep their kids safe with a smile on your face

For the kids who’re reluctant with eyes full of tears

Your big smiling welcome can help ease their fears.

For me keeping them safe was just part of my brief

Helping them feel welcome. To their fears a relief

I hoped I would bring as through gates they would pass

And then make their way the teacher and class.

Then later it’s home-time and their faces are bright

As they run to their mums who then clasp them tight

And over the road as they pass me they smile

And that tells me my job is really worthwhile.
