I was born and brought up in Keighley in the 1960s. One of my earliest memories is going to the Tufty Club each week which taught children the principles of road safety. Although the number of cars on the road was substantially less than today we did do a lot more walking including going to and from school from a young age.
The photograph shows a particular exciting day as we had to safely cross the road using the zebra crossing and were then rewarded with an ice cream and this even appeared in the local paper The Keighley News (I am standing on the back row the fourth from the right)
