A few months ago, just before Christmas, I told my life story in the church on a Sunday morning. People were so surprised at the traumatic events of my life , at my childhood and the fact that I’m surviving. It made me realise just how resourceful I am, because you don’t really think about it, and then when you’re sharing it you think of the trauma and think, how did I manage that and I’m still alive? I‘m still here. Why am I not in a mental institution!?

That for me is a great thing to have done, to have told my story from before I was born, because my dad rejected me as a child whilst I was in my mum‘s tummy, and that impacted on me as an adult.

Peoples lives matter to me, and how people are treated. How we care about each other, and how we live as a community. How our children are brought up and how our children are treated by those in authority. My faith is really important to me, and family - the children, my grandchildren and now my blessing - my great grandchildren. I’m in my fourth generation and that is a proud moment in my life.

Sharing her life story in church made her realize her resilience and the impact of her father's rejection, and she values community, caring for others, and her faith and family, including four generations.
