I was born in Kenya. I was educated there as well. Then when it was time for my marriage, my parents sent me to India. I was married in 1966. After spending two years in India, we emigrated to London. We came to London in 1969. We both had jobs at the time. My husband was in engineering, and I was in tailoring. After two years, our son was born. Later, two more sons were born. We raised our children. We used to work at the factory. We used to celebrate our festivals. We did those sort of things. After our sons grew up, we facilitated their education. All three sons graduated, and each followed his own course. We got them married. Now all are settled in their own lives.

Now it’s just the two of us in our house. Now we fend for ourselves. We used to invite them over once a month and take them for holidays. We used to do that. Now we are retired. I mean that as retirees we do stuff in our house, and care for each other. Our families come together to meet on Sunday.

We’re in Leeds since 1969. All of our sons are in Leeds. We have grandsons as well, both of them graduated this year. They’re graduates as well. They’ve gotten their own jobs as well. One is in London and the other is in Coventry. This is our life. We go shopping, and we also run our centre – Namaste Group.

Namaste Group. I cook there. My husband is the treasurer. We gather; there are around 25 to 30 persons in the group. Every Monday we cook at the mandir and serve everyone. Then everyone engages in activities and exercises. We are two women. Jasuben and I. We do the cooking, and we serve the food to everyone at one o’clock. Then we clean-up everything and return home. Then on Tuesday, which is now shifted to Friday. So, we come here every Friday, enjoy our time. And we really like it here as well. In the Vandan group. I’ve been visiting here since many years. It’s really nice, we get to know about various things here. It’s become a circle.

Our son was born in 68. A lot has changed in Leeds. A lot when compared to that time. The markets, and everything. Everything has changed.

Leeds is the only place we like. Because I don’t think I’d be able to manage in London and all. We’ve been staying here since a long time. So, this is the place we prefer.
