#1067 Joyce Smith Adel Picnic

Joyce Smith

I was born in 1943. As dad was a miner he loved the outdoors. used to go to Adel on the tram and walk until we came to two fields separated by the widening path. One field had a stream at the bottom of it. The other field had a wooden hut and a stone wall at the bottom of it. We used to have a picnic there, then get water from the face of a man set into the stone wall where water poured out of his mouth, it was the coldest water I have ever drunk. After the picnic, my sister and I raced across the other field to paddle in the stream. Two tired but very happy girls walked back to the tram. Those days were absolute heaven for us all.
