I think it was about 1958 I was walking from the old Union building towards Woodhouse Lane when there was a terrific bang and unfortunately a car engine had exploded and left a trail of parts on the road. The car was probably an Austin Swallow as it had a boat shaped rear, felt so sorry for the owner as was a good looking car in its day, hope he managed to get it repaired, did anyone else see it or know if it was repaired.
