When we were young me mother used to have to pay 2d or 3d a week for t’doctors bill, there were no NHS. When we had our children you had to pay. When my son were born you booked a bed, it were just after t’war, it went by what your husband were earning. You had to pay but your husband had to bring you your food. I paid twelve pound odd to have my baby.
