#776 Anonymous From runabout to seamstress

Anonymous

I started work at fourteen at eight shillings a week as a runabout, that means going round everybody and asking what they want for their dinners as there were no canteens in those days. Then they put me on a press for twelve shillings wage, I was on that job for a while then I decided I wanted to learn a trade on a sewing machine - they dropped my wage to six shillings a week.
