I started my life working with children and mothers and toddlers to working with people with disabilities and doing my best to help them.
Working with children after school - I did that for many years - about five or six years most of them were. Okay, take them to school in the morning, get ready, take them to school in the morning and then in the afternoon I'll go back to collect them and then set them down for tea which was already made already and then set up activities for them to do.
During the school holiday we have children from 10 to 11, we have a nice group, so have to plan activities, you plan trips as well… so we don't do projects where we go to the seaside, we have to do activities to go with seaside - painting - and do a very big display.
And this summer holidays we have to get the children out to show them some themes and whatnot and the parents come along with us. When we come back we discuss the activities we have visited and then we'll come back to draw the picture and then I make a display on the wall which I enjoyed.
I enjoyed those times you know and it was really a mixture of these experiences. Like working with school, children taking them to a bank and it was enjoyable for me. I saw that understanding in them, you know?
I came to decide to concentrate on working in the nursery when I finished my training. I started working in health nurseries - students coming in bringing their children to the nursery I was assigned to. I do miss the activities because everybody was assigned to the messy area, painting, blowing, you name it, which I used to enjoy
Yeah, so I retired. I did this for many years and when I finished when I retired, I thought well, how can I justify my time so I have to apply for three charities. Somebody introduced me to Pyramid (of Arts) - I love doing creative activities - and then they accepted me so I ended up being involved with three activities, as well as being HomeStart - brilliant!
