l lived in the Harehills area of Leeds up to the age of about 8 or 9 before we moved to a different area of Leeds.

We lived in a back to back terrace in 'The Luxors' (Luxor Avenue) in the 1960s. Lots of things stick in my mind from that time, one being the shops at the top of our road, a butcher's, a bakers called Wigglesworth's and a grocers. A newsagents called Mac of Skye with a lovely friendly couple who ran it. It was only years later that my dad told me the couple who ran it were Polish and their surname was Macofsky but had altered the name to sound more British. Then a Tesco supermarket opened nearby. This was a big thing and it was the first one's in Leeds. Bob Monkhouse opened it at a ceremony which my older brother and l went along to and much to our delight managed to get his autograph.
