In 2016-2017, Cai Shuqun of Kapok Theatre in Guangzhou learned a theatrical approach that allows participants to return to their bodies and spontaneously share their true stories between past and future with Alan Lyddiard, director of the Performance Ensemble (TPE).

This approach, like the “One Person, One Story Theatre”, is about guiding participants to share their true stories. But the difference is that the storytellers in the “One Person, One Story Theatre” do not participate in the performance themselves, and under the leadership of Alan, allowing participants to share stories directly has become an important part of the performance, which is also more empowering for the participants.

On the other hand, the mentor guides the participants to arrange their own story prototypes and events of concern into a program that can be performed to the public through dance, music, installation art, poetry and other diversified art forms, and the performance will also share the stories of the elders in Guangzhou with the elders in Leeds through live broadcasting, so that more people can understand the voices of the elders in Guangzhou through the performance, so that they can also know more about the city of Guangzhou.

Guangzhou Kapok Theatre Company has 17 years of experience in multi-art exploration activities in Chinese communities, and we cherish this resource to be able to cooperate with Alan this time, and we will receive guidance and help from Alan Online in the process.

The project will cooperate with the Guangzhou Yuexiu District Elderly Comprehensive Service Center, first through the way of explaining the meeting, recruit 20 local elderly people over 60 years old in Guangzhou, and then conduct a ten-day face-to-face workshop training, the first five days of workshops are preparatory periods: the content includes opening the body, free participation, story collection, etc., the last five days of the workshop for artistic sublimation: the content includes detailed programs, group cooperation, rearrangement, costume props, etc., and finally will be rehearsed and performed at the Guangdong Times Art Museum, and the performance will be broadcast live at the same time.
