My girlfriend and I moved to Leeds around 1987. I’m from East Yorkshire and she is from Essex. We’d been in Leeds a year or so when one of her school chums came to visit and we had arranged to meet in the Wrens. Her friend walked in and on greeting her said “you’ve a real Yorkshire accent now”.
An older gent sitting quietly at the bar, sipping his pint, turned to her and said “If there’s one thing she hasn’t got love, it’s a Yorkshire accent” then turned back and continued his drink.
I could not stop laughing.
