My mum and dad had six children and I’m the eldest. I left school at 14. I went to work at Matthias Robinson, because my dad worked there. He was a carpet fitter. He used to go round all the posh houses in Roundhay. It was very posh then. Fitted carpet was very rare in those days. He died at 49 and here I am 93. That was a very hard job he did.
