So this café, The Meeting Point, this is my activity. I come here three days a week and it’s really important for me, especially now a lot of my friends have died off. Without it you could end up really alone.
If it’s raining I can’t come here on my mobility scooter, it’s not safe. The winter is the worst time for elderly people. I wouldn’t even call the Meeting Point a café, is more of a hub. I could come in here, really down, and I will always walk out with a smile.
The staff here, the volunteers they always show an interest in you, they ask you how you are, they are really bubbly, and they always make time for you. You can share your problems with them, and they will listen and they will signpost you to the support that you need.
So here at the café on a Tuesday afternoon we started doing a friendship group. The person who looks after the café is a deacon. We got together and said we would really like to start something, so we started a conversation cafe. Sometimes there's just five of us, sometimes it’s just me and the Deacon. But it doesn't matter, it's always good.
