Memories flood back while sipping from mugs.
Diana Al-Saadi
Collecting ingredients I believe I shall need
For my Cake of Contentment
I’ll sort grain from the weed
Knowing that friendships are top of my list
Checking for things that I’ll probably miss
Next searching those items I’ve got on my list
A handful of sugar is not to be missed
In the form of compassion, caring and warmth
This sweet is essential here on our Earth.
Next add the eggs then after that butter
Whisk them all well
(I just heard you utter!)
Followed by flour – the staple of life
Secure in the knowledge of home, not strife.
A sprinkling of warmth, laughter and hugs
Memories flood back while sipping from mugs
Then ladling the mixture as careful can be
Place in a warm oven and bake for you and me!
Later I open the oven inspect the result
The aroma wafts upwards, catching my breath
As I remember the things gone into my bake
Warmth, friendship and laughter all went to make
My Cake of Contentment now finished with pride
Family and friends then come round and share
In the fruits of my labour of love, peace and care.
